Even the best trained dog or cat needs a little grooming at times – whether it is to keep the nails trimmed and the fur clean or just a quick trim for summer.  You wouldn’t go to just any barber or hair salon and you want to make sure you get a good groomer for your pet.  Here are several great choices in and around Bethesda.

BARK IN STYLE

This ten year old company comes to your home with a full sized grooming station and heated fresh water.  My dog, Poirot, goes happily into the van and gets a full cut and bath.  It is so much better for him to be groomed at home because he hated going to a kennel for grooming.  It was just too hard on me to carry a quivering whimpering 70 pound dog into the groomer!  Bark in Style is perfect for our family.  If you live in Northwest Washington or lower Montgomery County, it may be perfect for you too.

BONE JOUR

If you want a full service spa experience for your pooch, the Bone Jour Salon is definitely the place to go.  In business since 1986, Bone Jour is located at 4927A St Elmo Ave in Bethesda.

Their professionally trained groomers and staff are available Monday through Saturday for regular grooming appointments. The hours for drop off are 8:00 – 10:30 am.  They close at 6:30 Monday through Friday and  at 5:00 on Saturdays. They do not give set prices over the phone, but, can give a range.  Each dog varies due to size, condition, temperament and style that is selected. If you are considering a first visit and would like to know more precisely what to expect, you are welcome to stop in and meet with a groomer before your set appointment.

Dogs are able to leave as soon as they are finished.  Early arrival helps, but doesn’t totally insure that your dog will be “first out” as many people and pets arrive early due to work schedules.

PET SMART

If you want truly simple, Pet Smart in Bethesda may be the way to go.  You can make an appointment and take your pet in on your schedule.  They groom your pet as you wait and watch. This seems to solve several problems such as leaving your pet in a cage for too long while every dog gets groomed and you are there to make sure that your pet is not excessively stressed by the process.   There are lots of Pet Smarts around the metro area, but the one in Bethesda that I particularly like is at 6800 Wisconsin Avenue, right at the corner of Bradley and Wisconsin. There is plenty of parking in the basement of the building, entered from Bradley Blvd. and parking is free with validation.  This Pet Smart also boards animals and offers veterinary services in the store.
